CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is dead and a woman was seriously injured after a shooting early Tuesday near an east Charlotte shopping center, police said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to a call along Albemarle Road, near Reddman Road, around 1:40 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

One victim later died, while the other remains hospitalized, according to police.

Investigators spent much of the morning gathering evidence at the scene and speaking with witnesses. Police have not released the names of the victims or said what may have led to the shooting.
