ASHEVILLE – A coalition of local elected officials, physicians, nurses, clergy and others are continuing to push HCA Healthcare-owned Mission Hospital to increase staffing levels while calling for the hospital to provide more information about what the group alleges were multiple preventable deaths that occurred there this summer.
The group, Reclaim Healthcare WNC, held a Sept. 15 press conference outlining reasons they believe inadequate staffing levels at the Asheville hospital threaten patient safety. According to Reclaim Health, sources within Mission Hospital also have reported what they believed to be preventable deaths tied to a “breakdown” in the hospital’s telemonitoring system, which remotely tracks patient health data, like oxygen levels.
