LISBON A Columbiana County grand jury has secretly indicted a Wellsville man on a new felony charge of possessing a deadly weapon while under detention. The latest indictment comes as E’mory Chiles’s attorney has filed a notice of self-defense for a separate attempted murder case.

The latest indictment, unsealed last week, alleges that in late July, Chiles possessed a metal shank while in the Columbiana County Jail.

Chiles, 20, was arrested on the new charge on Friday. A judge set his bond at $50,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 29.

This is the second indictment for Chiles this year. He was previously indicted on June 4 in connection with an April 27 incident in Wellsville, where a juvenile was shot.
