MEMPHIS, Tenn. — President Donald Trump signed a memorandum Monday, Sept. 15, to create the "Memphis Safe Task Force" and deploy the National Guard in response to Memphis' crime.
During an Oval Office press conference that began just after 3:30 p.m. Monday, United States Attorney General Pam Bondi said the administration's goal is to establish a task force and a plan that will "make Memphis safe again."
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and the state's senators, Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, stood next to the president as the announcement was made.
Blackburn spoke briefly and said that long-term projects will be implemented to "make Memphis safe again."
When thanked for his support of the president, Gov. Lee took the opportunity to express his frustration with local crime.
