This super-sized salmon just obliterated the New York State record—so why isn’t a state record?

Cliff Chamberlan, of Herkimer, caught this 6.1 lb. pink salmon in the Salmon River on Aug. 31, exceeding the previous NYS record set in 1985 by more than a pound. But Chamberlan can't claim the record because DEC "retired" it last year.
