COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Multiple pets were killed in a Colleton County house fire.
Crews with Colleton County Fire Rescue were called to a Cumberland Street home on the afternoon of Sept. 11 after a resident returned home from picking up her children from school and found the doublewide mobile home on fire.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the home.
Officials said the occupant told them there were several animals inside. Firefighters entered through the front door and found two dogs dead in cages near the door. The animals were pulled from the home, but were “beyond help,” officials said.
A third dog and four cats were also found dead inside.
“Crews deployed one 1-3/4" handline inside the building and quickly extinguished the fire, which was in the kitchen.
