ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, now a Democrat after switching from the Republican party, has announced his campaign to become Georgia’s next governor.
On Tuesday morning, Duncan made the announcement to join the 2026 Georgia gubernatorial race, citing his opposition to President Donald Trump and his political party switch.
“I’ve never wavered in taking on Trump,” Duncan said in his announcement video uploaded on YouTube. “So Georgia Republicans threw me out of their party. I was leaving anyway. Now, I’m running for governor as a proud Democrat. To focus on what matters most to Georgians.”
He also announced his campaign on X/Twitter, along with the launch of his campaign website .
