The new Missouri congressional districts approved by the Legislature last week have been designed to give Republicans an even greater presence in Congress, as they expect that they will have seven seats out of eight seats instead of the six they now have. State legislators have promoted this plan as better reflecting "Missouri values." It doesn't.
In 2024, almost 40% of Missouri voters voted for Kamala Harris, and about the same for Crystal Quade, Gov. Mike Kehoe's Democratic opponent in the race for governor. If you applied that percentage to the Congressional districts, you would expect Missouri to have three Democratic representatives. This redistricting is clearly an effort to silence the voices of Democrats in the state.
