Robert Redford has died aged 89. Cindi Berger, chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, confirmed the news to Variety:

“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” Berger said in a statement. “He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”

The actor-turned-director — who had a stellar run in such films as “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Way We Were,” “The Sting,” “Three Days of the Condor” and “All the President’s Men” — had worked less frequently both in front of and behind the camera in recent years. His last on-screen acting job was in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” in which he reprised his role as Secretary Alexander Pierce.
