Costco has issued a safety alert over bottles of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene that may shatter without warning — even when left unopened.
The retailer warned members who bought the sparkling wine between April 25 and Aug. 26, 2025, in 11 Midwestern states that the product poses a glass explosion risk.
Customers in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin were told to dispose of any unopened bottles immediately. 3
“Do not open it. Dispose of the bottle immediately … to avoid risk from shattered glass,” Costco said in a letter to members.
The company instructed buyers to wrap the bottles in paper towels, seal them in a plastic bag and place them in the trash.
