FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- City Council last night accepted Fairview Park Council President Michael Kilbane’s resignation letter, which he submitted over the weekend.

The decision was tied to his social media comment last Wednesday about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a Utah Valley University event.

“A lot of good people died today. Charlie Kirk wasn’t one of them,” he wrote.

The resignation letter submitted by Kilbane, a 30-year resident of Fairview Park who has been on City Council since 2008, echoed sentiments he shared last week with cleveland.com: “I apologize profusely. It was in bad taste. It was a horrible thing that happened to the man and I’m sorry for his family.
