SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Polls have opened Tuesday in the recall election for San Francisco District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio. Voters in the Sunset District will vote on whether he gets to keep his job.
Tuesday’s vote stems from the supervisor’s endorsement of Proposition K, which shut down a portion of the Great Highway and led to the creation of Sunset Dunes Park in its place.
More than 46,000 voters live in District 4, according to the census. More than 10,000 of them signed the petition to make Tuesday’s recall election happen.
Supporters of Prop K say closing the highway makes it safer for pedestrians. Opponents argue that cutting off the main access to their neighborhood clogs up their streets and complicates their commute.
