The battle for Fairbanks Assembly Seat I is shaping up to be the most expensive race for Borough Assembly and Board of Education seats ahead of the Oct. 7 municipal elections.

Three Assembly seats are open for the 2025 election. Assemblymember Brett Rotermund is running unopposed for his seat.

Three candidates are vying for Seat C, which is open as Assemblymember Mindy O’Neall’s term ends and she runs for the city of Fairbanks mayor’s seat. North Pole veterinarian Jeanne Olson, teacher Garret Armstrong, and plumber J.T. McComas-Rose are eying the seat.

However, Seat I has seen the most fundraising and spending as incumbent Barbara Haney faces off against public defender Patrick Roach, according to filings with the Alaska Public Office Commission (APOC).

Haney reported receiving $36,267
