RINGGOLD — Jerry and Gail Harris were high atop the stands Saturday afternoon, watching Pittsylvania County student marching band members perform.

They didn’t have any children or grandchildren out on the field.

But they did have a connection with one team.

Both are bus drivers and ferried the Chatham students to Dan River High School, where the event was hosted.

He’s been doing it for 45 years. She’s been a bus driver for 43.

“The kids are great,” Jerry said when asked how the students were on the trip over. “They are really good kids.”

They were two of a few hundred other people attending the Preview of the Bands showcase on a crystal-blue Saturday afternoon.
