The odds appear stacked against embattled FBI Director Kash Patel.
Patel is facing criticism from all sides for his handling of the investigation into last week's murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Among other issues, Patel appeared to prematurely declare victory when he posted on social media that a suspect was in custody, only to be forced to walk that back 90 minutes later (the suspect, Tyler Robinson, was eventually turned in thanks to his father).
Patel was looking for a comeback in Tuesday's testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. So perhaps in an attempt to summon the spirit of Istanbul, Patel wore his lucky Liverpool tie.
It didn't take long for Patel's sartorial choice to start making the rounds online, with the worlds of global soccer and American politics colliding as they seem to be doing so frequently right now.
Patel has been spotted wearing a Liverpool tie on multiple previous occasions. In April, he celebrated the club's Premier League title and cited his "good luck tie" in a photo on X.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot's political views aren't widely known, but his predecessor likely wouldn't be happy to know that a staunch Donald Trump ally is a Reds fan.
There were plenty more reactions to Patel's tie online from Liverpool fans and non-fans alike.
