CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A plea deal has been reached over charges of child sex abuse in Floyd County.
Randy Lee McFarland, 39 of Charles City, was initially accused of second-degree sexual abuse. Law enforcement says McFarland sexually abused a child under the age of 10 between January and August 2024.
McFarland pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to stand trial.
He has now entered an Alford plea to two counts of lascivious acts with a child. McFarland is set to be sentenced on November 10 in Floyd County District Court.
An Alford plea means McFarland is not admitting guilt but concedes he could be convicted at trial and will accept criminal sentencing.
