Two Amur leopard cubs born at Brookfield Zoo will soon be ready to make their public debut.
Amur leopards are considered one of the rarest and most endangered big cats, with fewer than 100 left in wild.
The cubs, born July 14, had their first wellness exam this week. Each weighed in at around six pounds and received vaccinations to protect them from viruses and parasites, according to the zoo.
“This eight-week exam was the first step towards getting them outside to meet the world, hopefully in time to see our first snowfall,” said Copper Aitken-Palmer, senior veterinarian at the zoo.
For now the cubs are busy practicing their pouncing, but in a few months will be ready for a public debut.
