Robert Redford, born Charles Robert Redford Jr. on Aug. 18, 1936, went from Hollywood heartthrob to a motion picture legend in the course of his decades-long career. The award-winning actor, director, producer and activist made his acting debut on the stage before moving on to TV and films. Some of his more famous roles include 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,' 'The Great Gatsby,' 'All the President's Men' and so much more. In 1981, Redford founded the Sundance Institute in order to foster independent films. On Sept. 16, 2025, Redford died in his home at the age of 89.
