A school in southern Manitoba was put into lockdown due to a parent who caused a disturbance by shouting, uttering threats, and throwing punches at staff members, according to RCMP.

Police were called to the school around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 10 by staff requesting immediate assistance, according to an RCMP news release on Monday.

When officers arrived, the parent was still roaming the school and threatened to harm and fight police.

A 43-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats.

He has since been released from custody with court-imposed conditions.

RCMP said they are not releasing the name of the man or school because the incident involves a parent, and thereby might identify a child.
