Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters found a body in the smoldering remnants of a blaze at a high-rise in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday.

Fire crews responded at 2:02 a.m. to 112 W. Fifth St. between Main and Los Angeles streets where they found the fire in a corner unit and smoke on all seven floors, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

It took 100 firefighters 50 minutes to extinguish the flames, Stewart said.

The body was found inside the unit were the fire was knocked down, according to the LAFD.

Due to excessive storage conditions found within the burned unit, firefighters need to remove large amounts of debris to ensure there are no smoldering hot spots remaining at the burn site, the LAFD said.
