Three flight crews reported green laser strikes at Boston's Logan Airport on Monday evening, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA confirmed that they received the information from the crews on United Airlines Flight 2356, Southwest Airlines Flight 559 and Republic Airways Flight 4580 while they were operating near the airport. No injuries were reported.

Shining a laser at an aircraft, which can blind a pilot, is a serious safety risk and a federal crime. The FAA said there were 12,840 laser strikes reported last year.

Anyone caught shining a laser at an aircraft can face criminal penalties, including up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The FAA can also issue fines.
