A former Republican—and major critic of President Donald Trump —launched a bid to run as a Democrat in Georgia’s gubernatorial race on Tuesday.
Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan announced last month that he would be leaving the Republican Party to join the Democratic Party after years of being a sharp critic of Trump. Duncan, 50, served as the GOP lieutenant governor of Georgia from 2019 to 2023.
Trump targeted Duncan last month, calling him a “total loser” in a post on Truth Social. Duncan included Trump’s insults in his campaign launch video on Tuesday, calling the comments a “badge of honor.”
