LICKING COUNTY, Ohio —

An Ohio sheriff's office is investigating after the death of a missing 3-year-old boy.

The Licking County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called out Monday afternoon to Etna Township for a missing 3-year-old boy.

Multiple units responded and started searching the area, along with the help of neighbors.

After a couple hours of searching, the child was located in a nearby retention pond which the sheriff's office said had been a focus of the search from the onset.

Deputies pulled the child from the pond and administered CPR. The child was then taken by West Licking Medics to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
