KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Nearly two years after a deadly stabbing in Kalamazoo, a man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the death.
On Monday, a judge sentenced 42-year-old Jason Lawrence Blough to between 10 and 30 years in prison, with credit for nearly two years served, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
In August, he pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter as a third-time habitual offender. Before that, a jury trial resulted in a hung jury, police said.
Blough was charged in the killing of 62-year-old Heriberto Contreras Jr. in November 2023. Both men were experiencing homelessness at the time, investigators said, and they had apparently argued the night before.
Blough was arrested shortly after.
