FREEPORT, Ill. — Illinois leaders are helping out a local police department.

On Monday, the Freeport Police Department was awarded a $9,000 Organized Retail Crime Grant from the Office of Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. They were also given $630,000 in FY26 appropriations, or allocated funds, from US Senator Dick Durbin's office.

Freeport PD will use the appropriations to buy/support the following:

Improving the existing Sound Thinking Shot Spotter coverage

Leasing a live video camera trailer and a radar trailer with a License Plate Reader (LPR)

20 body cameras

Two squad video cameras and Digital Video Recorders (DVRs)

A Skydio X10 drone

Leasing additional LPRs

A mobile command trailer

This agreement is dependent on the appropriations bill passing.
