OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio (WJW) -- Gary Vernon Gottschalk, the longtime mayor of Oakwood Village, died on Friday, Sept. 12. He was 80.

"Mayor Gottschalk dedicated his life to serving our community with tireless commitment, vision and love for Oakwood Village," reads a notice on the city's website. "His leadership and devotion will be profoundly missed.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gottschalk family and ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time."

Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at Mount Zion Church, according to the city's website.
