TAWAS CITY – Misty Harmon, the activity director for Lakeview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Tawas City, has earned the facility a certificate of recognition from Monarch Watch, for her creation of a Monarch Habitat and Waystation at Lakeview.

According to the organization’s website, Monarch Watch was founded in 1992 at the University of Kansas. It is an education, conservation and research program, which focuses on the habitat, migration and preservation of monarch habitats throughout North America.

Harmon initiated a monarch butterfly hatch and release program at Lakeview Manor three years ago, as a way to engage residents in a meaningful activity that would benefit not only them, but also the butterflies and the local community.
