Just one Labour MP stood up to defend the government amid the ongoing Peter Mandelson scandal in the Commons today – only to instantly be shouted down.

Keir Starmer is in hot water over his former US ambassador Mandelson, who was sacked last week when new evidence revealed he previously called for his friend – convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – to challenge his prison sentence in 2008.

Epstein, who died in 2019, is one of the most prolific child sex offenders in modern history.

Mandelson’s friendship with him has raised ongoing questions over why he was ever appointed to such a high-profile role.

John Slinger, who was elected to represent Rugby in 2024, was the only Labour MP to put his head above the parapet during an emergency debate over Starmer’s ex-ambassador today.
