A Dubai-based engineer was warned he could be jailed after flying 3,600 miles to face an assault charge. ‌

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Barry Aikman, formerly of Bellshill, has "turned his life around" in the United Arab Emirates. ‌

He returned to Scotland to admit assaulting a man in Motherwell Road, Bellshill, on July 5 last year. ‌

Aikman, 27, was acting with unnamed accomplices when he punched the victim twice and shoved him to the ground.
