CHESTERTON — A 23-year-old local man was arrested Friday by federal agents on suspicion of sending an online threat through social media concerning the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana.

Jackson Fleming, of Chesterton, is accused of sending the threat Thursday.

He is charged with a criminal count of transmitting a threat in interstate communication, officials said. The charge carries a potential penalty of up to five years behind bars.

The arrest is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service with assistance from the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.
