Ibegan performing simultaneous bilateral arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome in 2007 and it currently comprises 23% of my hip arthroscopic surgeries.

Radiographic evidence of cam femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) occurs in 78% of contralateral hips in patients presenting with symptomatic FAI. Overall, 21% to 26% of patients will have bilateral symptomatic FAI. Surgical treatment options for such patients include staged hip arthroscopy or simultaneous bilateral hip arthroscopy.

Figure 1. Initial setup for first (left) hip arthroscopy is shown. Note supine patient position with lateralized padded post, bilateral mobile leg spars and lower extremity positioning, Foley catheter and adjacent arthroscopic and fluoroscopic monitors are in comfortable viewing position
