Washington – President Donald Trump had a heated exchange with ABC journalist John Lyons, who questioned him about his personal business dealings. The confrontation occurred at a White House event just before Trump is set to meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

During a press briefing, Lyons, the global affairs editor for ABC, asked Trump how much wealthier he had become since returning to the Oval Office in January. Trump responded, "I don’t know. Other than what my kids were doing ... mostly the deals that I’ve made were made before [taking office]. This is what I’ve done for a life. I’ve built buildings."

Trump then highlighted a ballroom he is commissioning at the White House, claiming it would be the best in the world and that he would cover the costs himself. When Lyons inquired about the appropriateness of a sitting president engaging in business activities, Trump replied, "I’m really not, my kids are running the business."

After learning that Lyons was from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Trump accused him of "hurting Australia," stating, "In my opinion, you are hurting Australia very much right now. And they want to get along with me. You know, your leader is coming over to see me very soon. I’m going to tell him about you, you said a very bad tone."

Lyons attempted to ask another question regarding a $2 billion deal involving the United Arab Emirates and a crypto company linked to Trump’s family. However, Trump interrupted, moving on to another reporter and telling Lyons to "Quiet."

Lyons is an experienced journalist with a background in both print and television, having worked for various major outlets. His questions were part of an investigation by ABC's Four Corners into the business activities of Trump and his family since he took office.

This exchange comes just days before Albanese's visit to the U.S. for the United Nations General Assembly and a long-anticipated meeting with Trump. Both leaders have indicated that their schedules are still being finalized. Trump is also set to travel to Arizona for the funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Albanese mentioned on Perth radio that he and Trump would meet in New York, where Trump is hosting a reception next week. He added, "We’ll see each other at various forums that are taking place between now and the end of the year. It’s summit season."

Lyons declined to comment on the incident, and the White House has been contacted for a response. The confrontation occurs amid Trump's ongoing $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, which he claims has published false and defamatory content about him. A spokesperson for the newspaper stated that the lawsuit lacks merit and is an attempt to suppress independent journalism.
