PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes on Tuesday joined an amicus brief in support of the District of Columbia’s lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s use of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.

The lawsuit filed by D.C. Attorney Brian Schwalb on Sept. 4 alleges the administration’s deployment of National Guard in D.C. is an illegal use of the military for domestic law enforcement and “to put an end to this illegal federal overreach.”

“Armed soldiers should not be policing American citizens on American soil,” Mayes said in a statement. “I’m proud to stand with D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb in his fight to stop President Trump’s unconstitutional military occupation of our nation’s Capital.”
