Brownsville’s Skyler Gates has reached a significant milestone in two different sports

In February, she eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring plateau in a girls basketball game against Jefferson-Morgan. And last Monday, the 6-foot-4 senior recorded her 1,000th kill in Brownsville’s girls volleyball match against California.

“We have had 1,000-point scorers at Brownsville, but we’ve never had a girl record 1,000 kills,” Brownsville coach Rachael Salvucci said. “There can’t be too many girls who have reached 1,000 in both sports. It’s quite an accomplishment.”

The WPIAL does not keep a list of 1,000-point scorers. The same is true for volleyball, especially since most teams do not keep volleyball stats. It’s a safe bet that athletes have reached both milestones in the history of the WPIAL, but
