PROVO — The man accused of killing political activist Charlie Kirk is set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
The hearing for Tyler Robinson, 22, will originate from 4th District Court in Provo. However, as is typical for initial appearances in that court system, Robinson is set to appear virtually from the Utah County Jail.
As Robinson sits in jail awaiting his court hearing, Utah County prosecutors said Monday they are working on filing formal charges against him in Kirk’s death. Kirk was shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University. Robinson was arrested two days later.
“I would anticipate an aggravated murder count and maybe a couple of lesser counts,” said KSL legal analyst Greg Skordas, noting the murder charge could carry the death penalty.
