Third-grader Skyler Hutto led the effort to make the Carolina Wolf Spider the official arachnid of South Carolina.

Wolf spiders eat cockroaches, ants and flies.

Wolf spiders have eight eyes, and the female can carry 100 to 300 egg sacs on her back.

When the eight-eyed wolf spider birthed more than 100 babies in his girlfriend's living room, Skyler Hutto had to use all his powers of persuasion to convince her not to slaughter them all.

He held her off and saved the arachnid family using a broom to softly sweep them outside. And by convincing his girlfriend that wolf spiders are, at times, heroic because they kill the really creepy bugs.

"She was more easily convinced when the spiders were out of the house," Hutto said.
