A scary injury to West Morgan linebacker Cole Thorn has been followed by a rapid and inspiring start to his road to recovery.

West Morgan head football coach Drew Phillips told AL.com that Thorn is “walking and talking” after being rushed to the hospital with a brain bleed during a game against Priceville.

“He’s doing way, way better than anybody thought,” Phillips said.

While running down the sideline in the first half of the matchup, Thorn collapsed as a result of what was later determined to be a brain bleed.

He was removed from the game on a stretcher and gave a “thumbs up” to the crowd before being placed on an ambulance and taken to Huntsville Hospital.
