A Metra train struck a 10-year-old boy’s bike, barely missing the boy, at Cedar Road crossing as the train was approaching the New Lenox station Monday evening, officials said.
The train, Rock Island Line 432, was inbound from Joliet to LaSalle Street Station downtown, according to Michael Gillis, Metra director of communications.
The boy was taken to Silver Cross Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and Metra trains in both directions were halted for about 90 minutes, causing extensive delays that impacted six trains, Gillis said.
After New Lenox police received a call at 5:25 p.m. Monday, police and fire officials assisted with traffic control as Metra police investigated, according to New Lenox Deputy Chief of Police Micah Nuesse.
