The Park Ridge City Council reversed course on paying for new city gateway signs, choosing Monday night to approve spending over $200,000 for new signs after two weeks ago voting against it.

It’s considered a rare move, but the council voted to approve the new signage at a cost of $215,600.

The same council had recently rejected that same measure, calling the project too costly.

At the City Council meeting Monday, the city attorney said it’s rare for things to pop back on the agenda for reconsideration. No one would confirm to Pioneer Press who pushed for the reappearance.

Mayor Marty Maloney said Alderperson Joseph Steinfels, who previously voted against paying that much for the sign installation, had pushed for the issue to come back before the council.
