Former Colorado Mesa University Athletic Director Joan McDermott is leaving the school effective immediately, according to a statement released by the school Monday evening.

Colorado Mesa's Senior Vice President of Development and CMU Foundation CEO Robin Brown will serve as interim Athletic Director for the immediate future, a CMU news release said.

McDermott had been with the school since being hired as interim Athletic Director in March 2023. McDermott had also worked elsewhere in the RMAC for an extended period prior to her tenure in the Western Slope; the former Mavericks athletic director also spent nearly two decades in administration at Metro State College of Denver, where she served as head volleyball coach in 1988-89 and 1996-98, as well as Director of Athletics from 1998-2015.
