A way to end annual threats of federal government shutdown until a budget is passed has been introduced by U.S. Sen. Katie Britt.
The Wiregrass native was joined by Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma and colleagues, to include Sen. Tommy Tuberville, in re-introducing legislation to end threats of government shutdown during budget agreement stalemates by mandating that Congress stay in session until the government is funded.
If Congress does not enact all 12 appropriations bills on time, an automatic 14-day continuing resolution would be triggered on rolling basis, keeping funding at the previous fiscal year’s levels under the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2025.
