A few weeks ago, a shoemaker traveled from her home in England to Oklahoma to learn the art of cowboy boot making from an artist and craftswoman in Guthrie who has spent 34 years perfecting this detailed craft.

If you visit Guthrie, all you have to do to find that expert is ask for “The Boot Lady.” They’ll direct you right away to Lisa Sorrell , whose workshop and store is in the heart of Guthrie’s downtown area, on E Oklahoma Avenue.

For two weeks, Sorrell worked intently with the student, Eleni Kai, who traveled from her Norwich home in the East Anglia region of England, to create a bespoke pair of cowboy boots . The two collaborated on the design of butterflies and a rose that Sorrell sketched on paper; by the end of the trip, the design had transformed into wearable art.
