SDG council is moving forward with changes to its official plan, first discussed in 2024.

The changes were finalized at the council table on Monday. In June 2024, SDG council approved a bylaw that would re-categorize some municipally owned lands under a new category, major open space. This new designation removed a significant stock of land that had previously been designated as prime agricultural.

The provincial government appealed SDG’s changes, which led to a decision by the Ontario Land Tribunal in May . The province’s main objection was the loss of prime agricultural land.
