PITTSBURGH, Pa - Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro delivered the keynote address Tuesday at the 2025 Eradicate Hate Global Summit, using his own experience as the target of an arson attack to highlight the dangers of political violence and the urgent need for unity.

Shapiro opened by recounting the terrifying night of April 13, when an attacker broke into the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg, throwing Molotov cocktails and carrying a hammer he later admitted he planned to use to kill the governor.

Shapiro, his wife Lori, their four children, and extended family members escaped unharmed after being rushed out by state police.
