A driver who fled from police this week had a dead body in the vehicle's back seat, the Fort Wayne Police Department said today.

Police responded about 1:30 a.m. Monday to the 2300 block of Cortland Avenue. Callers had reported someone had been shot and placed in the back of a vehicle that then left the area.

Police found a lot of blood and shell casings in the alley of the 600 block of West State Boulevard. Detectives suspected someone removed the victim to conceal the crime, a news release said.

More than eight hours later, the department's Homicide Task Force found the suspect's vehicle in the parking lot of a business. The suspect fled when officers initiated a traffic stop.
