CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A grand jury returned a murder indictment for a man charged in the stabbing death of a Ukrainian woman on a Charlotte train.
Decarlos Brown, 34, is accused of stabbing and killing Iryna Zarutska, 23, on Aug. 22 on the LYNX Blue Line in South End. Brown was arrested and charged with murder after the incident. Tuesday's indictment further strengthens the prosecution's case against Brown.
The stabbing gained national attention after CATS released surveillance video of the stabbing . The video shows Brown stabbing Zarutska multiple times in the neck while she sat wearing earbuds and looking at her phone. She had recently fled Ukraine seeking safety from war, according to family friends.
Brown has 14 previous court cases in Mecklenburg County and was sentenced to six years
