The Hagar Township Board of Trustees could soon consider a resolution opposing a proposed constitutional amendment in Michigan that would eliminate property taxes.
Backers of Ax MI Tax are now collecting petition signatures to get the question on the November 2026 ballot, but Hagar Township Supervisor Izzy DiMaggio tells us it’s a bad idea. While the thought of not paying property taxes might be appealing at first glance, he says that would leave local governments throughout the state without a way to fund services everyone uses.
