GRANDVILLE, Mich. — A large gas leak caused road closures, evacuations and shelter-in-place orders in Plainfield Township on Tuesday.

The Plainfield Township Fire Department said the leak happened on Plainfield Avenue and 5 Mile Road.

It impacted several businesses, including Prestige Flooring.

Owner Chris Williams said he was on his way to work when he was notified he had to evacuate his business.

"I was supposed to be started at 10. It's 1230 right now, and I had to actually reroute one of my carpet deliveries to my house,” said Williams.

He said he had a job at a nursing home that was delayed because of the gas leak.

“I mean, kind of bums me out. We have a nursing home to install today, and we can't even get into our shop," said Williams.
