DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) — The Regional Data Group ( RDG ) has released new population projections for Dane County, predicting significant growth.

The county is expected to reach 887,000 residents by 2050, which is more than 325,000 above the 2020 Census count and over 100,000 higher than the Wisconsin Department of Administration's projections from January 2025, according to a press release.

Madison is projected to reach a population of 324,580 by 2030, an increase of about 40,000 people based on current figures.

The RDG's forecast , which anticipates a 16.5% growth per decade through 2050, is based on a broader range of data and local insights into housing and job trends. This contrasts with the DOA's estimate of an 11.5% growth rate, which assumes a statewide population decline.
