An off-duty Florida police officer was allegedly shot and killed by a gas station worker who told investigators he was "having a bad day," authorities said.

Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell was gunned down in an Ormond-by-the-Sea Circle K gas station on Monday afternoon, Volusia County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The suspect, 24-year-old Eduardo Labrada Machado, was an employee of the gas station.

The sheriff's office said Machado was seen on surveillance footage walking out of the store soon after Jewell walked in.

Machado went to his car to retrieve a jacket, then walked back into the store and shot Jewell in the head multiple times, killing him, the sheriff's office said.
